Welcome to Robin's Wikispace Robin_eggs.jpg

Hello,
My name is Robin Johnson and I am currently completing my master's degree in Adult Education. I am an older non-traditional student who realizes how much our learning styles change as we age. We can have a head knowledge about the effects of aging, study it, visably see it, and feel it but these changes become more of a reality when one begins to realize the way you once learned new material and information no longer applies. Instructors who have a knowledge of how adult learners do learn will be better equipped to facilitate learning and target students' needs. I am from the baby boomer generation and technology is an area of weakness for me. I understand why many people are apprehensive about learning technology and going or returning to college. It takes a lot of time to learn new things that are awkward.....and as you get older.....there is less time to waste. One of the main interest I have in adult education is learning and studying how to remove unnecessary barriers that inhibit learning for the mature student. As we move into the 21st century the intergenerational classroom has consistently grown and has become a familiar demographic dynamic in today's colleges. Instruction and curriculum should and can embrace a variety of students and learning options rather than centered mainly and specifically around the traditional student as in the 20th century. Eventually, I would like to work with and ease the transitions of those students who have been out of school for several years and are beginning or returning to the college environment.

For those of you who want to know the differences between pedagogy and andragogy watch the video PowerPoint below. It moves very fast so you might want use the pause button. Below the screen are some other interesting video's on adult education.
